Alvarado Veterinary is the largest mixed-animal hospital in Texas.  12 full-time doctors are available to assist interns and the clinic has a very active and exciting caseload.

  2 interns will rotate between large and small animals bi-monthly, with emergency care divided evenly. This Internship has been developed to allow the intern as much hands-on time and practical knowledge as possible.  Our goal is to equip interns to enter private practice fully prepared for medical and surgical cases in numerous species.

  Alvarado's equine hospital has 4 stocks, 2 mare/foal stocks, a breeding lab, and 16 stalls. The facility also has a separate equine surgery room with a lift table, 2 surgery stalls, and stocks. Our practice involves breeding, show horses, boarding centers, ranch/rodeo, and performance and pleasure horses. We are in close contact with numerous specialist and refer surgical colic cases.

  The cattle barn has a hydraulic chute, 4 full-time large animal techs, and excellent doctors with a strong interest in food animal medicine and lameness. Our food animal practice is mostly cow/calf, show cows, rodeo bulls, small ruminants, and occasional show pigs.

  The small animal hospital has 7 exam rooms in a 10,000 square foot building. The clinic is all together on one property; equiped with in-house lab with blood gases and clotting profiles, 3 sonograms, digital x-rays, blood pressure and ekg monitors for anesthesia, fluid pumps, tonopens, power floats, etc. AVC offers advanced small animal orthopedic services, including TP, TTA, and swivel-lock cruciate repair. Surgical services also include bone plating, x-fix, interlocking nail, and pin and wire, with an average of 4 major orthopedic surgeries a week. Our goal is to offer the best quality medicine and surgery our patients need, at a value our client's can appreciate.

  7 experienced SA techs, 4 LA techs, and an excellent support staff allows the interns to concentrate on learning and applying great medicine and surgery. Previous experience with over 90 externs from all over the world has created an atmosphere of learning acceptance from the senior clinicians down to the animal care specialist. Weekly doctor-only rounds and weekly clinic-wide inservice days are already in place. Our position as such a large clinic allows many opportunities for clinical service veterinarians to come to AVC for our meetings. The opportunity to divide some intern duties and an intern-mate will also allow for more personal time than most internships. Free reoom and board on the facility will simplify life and reduce expenses.

  AVC is located 40 miles south of Fort Worth, Texas, and 60 miles southeast of Weatherford. Alvarado offers many amentities of Texas small town life with the convenience of being within an hour drive of Dallas/Fort Worth.
